Typical Irish melodies meet hard electric guitar and fuse an ancient music culture with the modern world. If you have never left a club dancing, singing and staggering, you don't know what it means to have seen the band live.
Strictly limited, sunny yellow 180g vinyl with printed inner sleeves plus CDs in a sturdy pocket. The eighth OSTARA album is an uncompromising confrontation with the zeitgeist - and from the first to the last second full of tragic urgency. Songwriter Richard Leviathan, inspired by the Sturm und Drang movement, weaves a barbed network through the centuries: from the cry of battle of the Nordic god Wieland to the current echo of failed desires, from the narcissism of the masses to the loss of love and the death of hope . An album for our time, a bleak but touching harbinger of a new, dark decade.
The first ever international album from the Republic of Djibouti and Ostinato's first studio recorded album. While the music of Somalia is widely celebrated, its neighbor, Djibouti, formerly known as French Somaliland, is home to an equally deep reservoir of its own unique Somali music. A stunning collision of Indian Bollywood, Jamaican dub and reggae, sleek horns inspired by Harlem's jazz era, and the haunting and joyous synthesizer melodies of the Red Sea by Groupe RTD, the national radio band of Djibouti and one of East Africa's best kept secrets. Helmed by Mohamed Abdi Alto, possibly the most unheralded saxophone virtuoso in all of Africa, and mentored by guitarist Abdirazak Hagi Sufi -- both of whom feature as instrumentalists on our Grammy-nominated compilation Sweet As Broken Dates -- Groupe RTD is the finest expression of Djibouti's cosmopolitan music style. Alto honed his trade from a steady diet of John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. Abdirazak's guitar style draws heavily from his love affair with Jamaican music. Young singers Asma Omar and Hassan Omar Houssein are fluent in the classic hits of Bollywood and Indian music. Synth player Moussa Aden Ainan brings a distinctly dexterous Somali touch, reminiscent of the exceptional keys work of Somalia's Iftin and Waaberi Band. Their sound is kept afloat by measured Tadjouran rhythms, courtesy of drummer Omar Farah Houssein and dumbek player Salem Mohamed Ahmed's perfect interplay. Recorded in three days -- as per the strict limit set by Djibouti's national radio authorities -- with a state-of-the-art mobile recording studio replete with the very best audio interfaces and carefully positioned microphones around a less than soundproof room to achieve a vibrant, professional sound while maintaining the analog warmth of decades prior. Double vinyl pressed at 45 RPM, housed in a gatefold sleeve.
Beautifully presented LP (180 gr. Orange vinyl) with BBC recordings from 1965 - 1969. When Donovan first entered the Paris Theater Studios of the BBC, he had no idea that he would perform here again and again until 1969. In an intimate atmosphere with stand-up bass player Spike Heatley and drummer Danny Thompson, the 15 songs (the recently released double CD contains 30 tracks) were recorded on this LP, which also contains interview sequences. With the songs' Catch The Wind ',' To Sing For You ',' Colors', 'The Candy Man', 'Little Tin Soldier', 'Universal Soldier', 'Mellow Yellow', 'Jennifer Juniper', 'Hurdy- Gurdy Man and many more
"Closeness" the fourth album by the Pennsylvania duo radiates warmth and timeless nostalgia. Native Harrow are the singer and guitarist Devin Tuel and the multi-instrumentalist Stephen Harms and already inspired us on their predecessor "Happier Now" with fragile singer / songwriter and groovy folk rock. On their new work, the duo go one step further by incorporating new sounds and experiences. The ingenious fuzz opener "Shake" sounds like 70s FM grooves and groovy AOR sound, the dry desert funk of "If I Could" is difficult to escape, 60s art pop "Even Peace" and the graceful folk -Soul "Carry On" hit the heart and make "Closeness" an excellent and varied album.
The multi-instrumentalist Jack Wyllie (Portico Quartet/Szun Waves) presents his new project Paradise Cinema. It was recorded in Dakar, Senegal in collaboration with mbalax percussionists Khadim Mbaye (saba drums) and Tons Sambe (tama drums). The impressionistic and dream-like quality of 'Paradise Cinema' is a stunningly effective realisation of Wyllie's experience, in ahypnagogic state of aural consciousness: "I had a lot of nights in Dakar, when the music around the city would go on until 6am. I could hear this from my bed at night and it all blended together, in what felt like an early version of the record." Atmospherically 'Paradise Cinema' is vaporous and enigmatic, but also percussive; existing in a paradoxical sound-space that's amorphous, yet still purposeful, serene, but propulsive and aesthetically sharp. Khadim Mbaye and Tons Sambe, provide the rhythmic backbone of the record. There are traditional elements of mbalax rhythm, but it is often deconstructed or played at tempos outside of the tradition, so while it hints at a location it occupies a space outside of any specific region. 'Paradise Cinema' is also informed by notions of hauntology – a philosophical concept originating in the work of French philosopher Jacques Derrida– on possible futures that were never realised andhow directions taken in the past can haunt the present. On the album's title Wyllie comments, "there are a handful of old cinemas in Dakar – these big modernist buildings dotted around the city built around independence. They're old and derelict now, but feel to me like monuments to that period, when the city was flooded with utopian ideas about its potential futures." As such it sits closely to 4thworld music – situated in an imagined culture and time that never came to pass. And while it contains rhythmic references to Senegal it combines these elements with ambient and minimalist music to produce a sound that sits outside of any tradition. Setting the tone for the long-player's themes is the optimism-driven, balmy beauty of 'Possible Futures', where rich-toned drums throb and levitate in a stratospheric ether. Like a time-lapse video of plants in bloom, 'It Will Be Summer Soon' is the sound of anticipation and growth. Rhythmically it flickers and flutters, evoking rainfall, or the blurred wings of a bird in in flight. Casamance moves through field recordings drifting in and out of focus, beats pitched-down low and unfurling saxophone, whilst the ambient 'Utopia' was made mainly with processed saxophone and suggests a longing for a perfect world. Galloping percussion juxtaposes with a wistful mood on 'Liberté' – a title that referencesa derelict modernist cinema in Dakar of the same name– a hauntological landmark, made more poignant by the its name being part of the French national motto. Tying into the cover artwork, Jack explains, "the 'Digital Palm is a telecommunications mast disguised as a palm tree in central Dakar. As a modern piece of technology that on first glance looks natural, it mirrors the combination of modern and acoustic elements." Perhaps eliciting a time that never came, or maybe still in hope of it yet to come, 'Eternal Spring' concludes the LP's otherworldly beauty with hypnotic drums powering a subtly-building, sparkling and powerful crescendo. Jack Wyllie is a musician, composer, electronic producer who draws on influences of jazz, ambient, and the trance-inducing repetition of minimalism. Wyllie performs and records in Portico Quartet, Szun Waves (withLuke Abbott and Laurence Pike)and Xoros. He has also collaborated with Charles Hayward, Adrian Corker and Chris Sharkey and released on Ninja Tune, Babel, Leaf, Real World and Gondwana. Khadim Mbaye and Toms Sambe play in various mbalax groups in Dakar. Khadim has also toured internationally with Cheikh Lo.

Als Singles wurden damals 'The Mourners Of St. Paul's' sowie 'The City Is At Standstill' ausgekoppelt. "…Young, fun and riotously talented, Liam Frost And The Slowdown Family are a free-wheeling 21st century folk carnival" (NME)
Seamus Fogarty fuses his down-to-earth Irish-Alt-Folk, Country and Blues with discreetly staged electronics. Tired of the guitar and looking for a darker nuance, Fogarty relied more on synthesizers and drum computers this time and produced it himself. "A Bag Of Eyes" rattles and jerks like a body builder's hole press. A cacophony of saxophones and angry oscillating drums are casually recaptured by loose fuzz guitars. The stories that Fogarty embeds in this sound world fluctuate between the fantastic and the everyday: nuns playing volleyball, horses on cliffs, life viewed through the rear window. There are echoes of his own past, the loss of dear friends. Ireland, London and two views of San Francisco, 15 years apart. There are bus stops, house fires and Jimmy Stewart.
"Förbundet", the 7th album by the Swedish folk rock band Garmarna. More than 25 years ago, the three founders Stefan Bristand-Ferner, Gotte Ringqvist and Rickard Westman came together. The result was a mixture of folk, medieval motifs and modern technology. They were soon supported by drummer Jens Höglin and Emma Härdelin as singers. Garmarna's music still lives from the friction between tradition and modernity. From dark rock to almost poppy melodies, from electronic hardness to acoustic softness and with Swedish lyrics. Their modern, electrified folklore also appeals to listeners who cannot do anything with the traditional folk term. Simply Garmarna!
Limited Gtf. 180g 2X12 '' Black Vinyl. The fans had to wait many years, because storyteller Asp Spreng took his time with the first album of his story-folk project Herumor. Not only musically, the songwriter shows himself from a different side, but also less dark and caught up in horror novels than with his band ASP. Herumor moves in the twilight, the twilight, between eternal forests and mysterious otherworlds. The listener enjoys tales of elves, trolls, bone men roaming the woods and all sorts of other mythical creatures. But there is also room for sizzling erotic romance and tragic love stories on "A love no less deep": emotional, mysterious, but never crossing the kitsch line. The sound dimension invites you to dream as well as the sung stories themselves and absolutely exceptional musicians could be won for the songs. The wait was worth it. The gate to another world is always a crack.
