Kall - "the Velvet Underground of Black 'n' Roll" according to Cvlt Nation - have come a long way. The successors of the Depressive Black Metal pioneers Lifelover released their self-titled debut back in 2014, and although the spirit of the band from which they originated hovers over their three previous members, their second album "Brand" is a self-empowerment and emblem uncompromising independence. The musicians use stylistic means from Scandinavian Black Metal, Shoegaze and Post Rock, Saxfon-pregnant Psych and the saddest Pop to express their message. "Brand" appears as a Digipak CD and gatefold double LP with etching (black and limited, transparent neon orange).
The black metal of the Dutch from DUIVEL makes the dark heart of every puristic old school fanatic beat faster. The band takes the listener on a journey back in time to the early 90s, when black metal was still considered a dangerous anti-culture. Despite her connection to the past and a really nice, rough production, Duivel manages to create variety, especially in the vocals, which sometimes screech, roar or sound completely different. Tirades Uit de Hel is Black Metal as pure, raw and malicious as when the Second Wave was born.
One year after "Saga á tveim tungum I: Vápn ok viðr", "Saga á tveim tungum II: Eigi fjoll né firðir" now follows the second part of the saga "Saga á tveim tungum" - in German "History of Two Languages" by ÁRSTÍÐIR LÍFSINS. Raw, grim harsh, fast lashing black metal, cutting melodies, engaging, dense atmosphere and in the middle a dark male choir. From evocative drums and choirs to epic black metal, dark dark melodic metal to archaic folklore / pagan, there is a dynamic and exciting change.
The album is generally considered a milestone in the second wave black metal. In contrast to the first wave, which in principle consisted of various thrash metal bands from the 1980s, Mayhem managed to establish an idiosyncratic style that was based on the old models but had enough ideas of its own. Fueled by the death of two band members and the scandals surrounding the arson of churches, 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas' (on Deathlike Silence Productions, May 1994) developed black metal from Norway and Sweden into the dominating underground scene in heavy metal in the mid-1990s Years. In addition to the bands from the Mayhem area, new black metal bands, especially from Scandinavia, sprang up. Now the most important black metal album of all time, praised by many fans and critics, is available as a limited deluxe box set including five LPs. The iconic album is mastered for the first time by the original DAT tapes and released by drummer Hellhammer. Four more LPs with Rehearsals (Oslo, February + May 1992), Instrumental Rough Mixing (Bergen, June 1992), and Vocal Sessions (Bergen, April / May 1993) are still included in the box. In addition, an elaborate 96-page booklet with interviews about the history of the band and the much-quoted album. Vinyl, LP, Album, Reissue, Remastered Vinyl, LP, Single Sided 4 × Vinyl, LP Box Set, Limited Edition, Special Edition
Now finally available on vinyl! Jakob Björnfot's solo project (The Duskfall) takes us on a wild ride through the deep forests of Norway, through mountains and deep valleys. Black metal in the fairway of Watain
"Helfró" is digital for the first time and appeared in self-distribution in December 2018. Now the album is being reissued. And not just digitally, but also on CD and on vinyl. Made possible by Season of Mist, who will physically re-release the album on June 5, 2020. HELFRÓ are songwriter, drummer and singer Ragnar Sverrisson and guitarist, bassist and singer Halldor Simon Thorolfsson. Stephen Lockhart (who worked for SVARTIDAUÐI, among others), who mixed and mastered the album, also helped with the recording of the debut album. The result is possibly the best and hardest Black Metal album that will come from Iceland this year! For fans of Dark Funeral and Svartidaudi.
Third and long-awaited album by the band from Oregon / USA after the debut 'Sovereign Nocturnal' (reissue on Eisenwald) and 'RuneEater' from 2012. The band's sound oscillates between sublime post-rock, bitter Black Metal combined with almost pathetic folk or acoustic passages. Six partly epic tracks with a length of more than 15 minutes also reveal the soul mate with bands like Wolves In The Throne Room. The album was recorded with the help of Billy Anderson, who already pushed the controls for Neurosis, Agalloch, Sleep or Melvins. The band goes on a big European tour with Uada, Grift and Solbrud. The limited CD digipak comes with a print in metal look and an elaborately illustrated booklet. The LP appears as 180 gr. Clear vinyl, gatefold, vinyl sized booklet and download code! Absolute insider tip for fans of Wolves In The Throne Room, Panopticon, Agalloch, Winterfylleth and others
... AND OCEANS are known to be a Finnish band that cannot be compared to any other. Black metal and electro are the two directions from which the six musicians mix their songs. The new album, their fifth ever, first at Season Of Mist and actually their comeback album with a new singer and keyboardist, goes "back to the roots" to the official Symphonic Black Metal, which in certain sections is also known as Melodic Death Metal or Gothic / Could go through Doom Metal. Produced by Juho Räihä (SWALLOW THE SUN, WOLFHEART), and mix & mastering by Owe Inborr (ARS VENEFICIUM, FESTERDAY, BEFORE THE DAWN).
"The Language of Limbs" starts - rather atypically for an opening song - relatively abruptly with double bass and a rather dense sound wall. Something like the signature sound of CONSTELLATIA can already be seen here: melodic dreamy guitars, mostly undistorted, accompanied by high-speed drumming and plaintive vocals, often more like a shout, up to angry screams. As unusual as it sounds, these elements come together to form a coherent whole. For fans of Wolves in the Throne Room, Cult of Luna and Alcest
Reissue of the 2014 album by the Greek black metal band. For the first time 'Ruins Of Souls' is available on LP.
"… In their luggage, Terrestrial Hospice have black metal of the varied variety, which is brisk and entertaining. The two seven minutes that open and end the album definitely make you listen (...) The Emperor cover, in which the Poles unite, stands in stark contrast missed dirty and full-bodied Black 'n' Roll paint and toppled the raw sound of the original overboard. 'The Accuser' hits the same notch with a lot of aggro; the three minutes are also well laid out. The title track scores with a mysterious one from the middle Whispering and speed reduction, then changes into the heavy mid-tempo minor, which is maintained until the end, which makes the dark and raspy vocals come into their own ... (Bleeding4metal.de) Now also the longplay debut of the Poles is published. Nihilistic Black Metal in Pure culture, available as CD and gatefold LP.
The publication of "Pentagrammaton" closes a gap and makes Ofermod's musical development appear more linear (...) As a result, Ofermod will always sound more straightforward and thoughtful than at the beginning of her career. The song writing of 'Pentagrammaton' is fun and fits well with other Swedish priests of orthodoxy. A new reference album from this school was ultimately not dug up - although this is not the measure of things, especially since there are already enough of them. As a bonus there is a complete version of the album with Belfagor on vocals on a second CD / LP. 15 years after the recording sessions, 'Pentagrammation' finally appears on Shadow Records / Regain. The tracks originally recorded in 2005 were remixed and mastered by Tore Stjerna.
"The demo 1/95, released shortly after it was founded in 1994, celebrates with this year's re-release, so to speak," black wedding "instead of the usual" silver wedding "after twenty-five years. There are four tracks and these again in an" alternative "version Now to celebrate, but for me to hear first (…) As soon as the in-ears are placed, the finest Swedish darkness blows into my ear canals. The passionate vocals hit the black heart and always animated to join in. This is not least due to the great drumming and the gentlemen on the strings. So deep in hearing, thoughts of Watain and Erik's great vocals arise for the first time on track four (A). Meanwhile I have the songs in Continuous loop on the eavesdropper. Four tracks, four times pure black listening pleasure. I think a re-release was a must here. " (Hellfire Magazine)
Great split of the two bands by the multi-instrumentalist Hoest called Taake and Deathcult, which can really inspire. Unfortunately only one EP and with just over 23 minutes a little too short, since the Black Metal that is played here is already an addictive substance. A must have for fans and collectors of both bands.
One of the hotter insider tips when it comes to non-Scandinavian Black Metals in recent years has certainly been SAOR, which is no coincidence. Behind this is Andy Marshall, who used to work at FALLOCH. He left the band after their debut in order to pursue his own vision of Scottish, pardon: Caledonian Black Metal with this project. That started with the almost programmatically titled debut "Roots", which was released in 2013 and already indicated the enormous, atmospheric potential and that is now being re-released with 2 bonus tracks about Season of Mist.
AGES are real first division Black Metal! Founded in 2011 during one of those typical, bitter Swedish winters, in 2015 they released their first album "The Malefic Miasma". Five long years later, “Uncrown” is the great second. “Uncrown” is not a lo-fi forest and meadow rumble, but a majestic work that gets under your skin full of energy, brutality, atmosphere and the mesmerizing melody that Swedish Black Metal likes to hear again and again.
A scandalous work at the time, whether the propagated anti-Christianity, the debut album of the Nagash project, which one or the other might know from his involvement in the Dimmu Borgir early works or also with The Kovenant, is actually all at the same time: an example of raw, anti -religious Black Metal, with regard to the sound absolutely suitable for purist and compositionally an album that can still be shown in 2011 to demonstrate what Black Metal is ... without having to be ashamed of it, but above all without having to cite further examples .
Núll (also written as the number "0") from Iceland are a typical product of the Black Metal circle in Reykjavík. Similar to the scene in Trondheim, Norway, new bands are constantly forming from a limited cadre of musicians on the volcanic island. Members of Misþyrming, Naðra and Vonlaus, among others, are involved in Núll. Instead of just grinding another facet in the black style typical of Iceland's capital, especially inspired by Deathspell Omega, Núll enrich the basic pattern with a pronounced Doom edge. The North Atlanticists manage this maneuver extremely well. The always gloomy compositions remain dynamic even in the sluggishly meandering XL song format and offer well-placed highlights.
One of the insider tips when it comes to non-Scandinavian Black Metals has certainly been SAOR in recent years. The mastermind of the project is Andy Marshall, who was formerly active at FALLOCH. With this project, he has realized his own vision of atmospheric Black Metal mixed with Celtic Folk and Scottish sound. After the debut "Roots", now the next reissue - the highly acclaimed and much appreciated 2nd album "Aura". Also as lim. Blue / White / Black Mixed Gtf. 2LP. Format: -Lim.2LP / Gatefold / Blue, White, Black Mixed Vinyl -2LP / Gatefold / Black Vinyl
The trio from Lahti spreads Thrashy Black Metal chaos over nine tracks. Rough riffs echo coldly and the vocals are delivered scratchy and unclean. The pure metallic starting riff of “Beater Of Children Of God” can do something and goes straight into it. But the beating is not long in coming. The Finns are in the mood to insert an intro after the first half, which consists of a doom and gloom and a narrative female voice, also goes through as an intermezzo and introduces the speed grenade “Driven By Disgust” well.
After fifteen years of sleep, the comeback album of the legendary Swedish black metal band Mörk Gryning. "Hinsides Vrede", "otherworldly anger", depicts the fall of prehistoric cultures and our impending doom while the world is breaking at the seams. It is a furious attack on the civilized world and a descent into the lower regions of the world. Mörk Gryning find again the energy and joy in playing that they had when they wrote their legendary debut record and combined melody with straightforward brutality.
The Black Metal formation has been active since 1988 and is based on Rotting Christ, Beherit or Celtic Frost. Now, for the first time and for the band's anniversary, a live album will be released that was recorded in São Paulo in 2019, and has 15 tracks on two different double LPs (black or clear vinyl) or a digipak CD. "Glorious riffs, profound melodies and a solid rhythm section", to use the band's words. Occasionally omnipresent keyboards and symphonic parts are the basis of the intersection of black and gothic metal and will appeal to fans who still play bands like Moonspell or Rotting Christ today.
As the country's vibrant black metal scene has proven, Iceland can be a beautiful and scary place, where angry elements rage, teaching fear, but also inspire human creativity. AUÐN emphasize melodies rather than dissonances and approach their music from a dramatic, classic Black Metal aspect. AUÐN have now announced their long-awaited third for October 30, 2020. This will bear the auspicious name "Vökudraumsins Fangi". The band itself is facing a change: As announced on Facebook, all the stops will be pulled out again on the new album. The record should not only sound much more aggressive, but also deliver more melodies and unleash new, previously unknown soundscapes. For this purpose, they relied primarily on the experience of producer Jens Bogren (including OPETH, DIMMU BORGIR, ROTTING CHRIST). With "Vökudraumsins fangi" AUÐN deliver another fascinating work of art.

Witchtrap, speed metal gods from Medellin (Colombia) are not tired of delivering to their fans even after almost 30 years of metal business. Their new album, Evil Strikes Again, was released in South America shortly before Lockdown and now finally makes it across the pond to Europe shortly before Helloween.
Indie Recordings releases the Norwegian extreme metal band's back catalog in a series of limited, colored vinyl! The series named 'All Colors Gone' will contain all eight albums of the band in two steps each. It continues with the 'V' released in 2011. Vreid's music includes influences from 1970s rock, classic heavy metal from the 1980s and Norwegian black metal. AllMusic wrote in its review of the debut that the band is "obviously well aware of the Thrash Metal and Punk legacy of Black Metal", and on the successor 'Pitch Black Brigade', "the band is celebrating these roots".
BELPHEGOR release a new edition of their album "Necrodaemon Terrorsathan" (2000) via Nuclear Blast. Twenty years after its first release, the Diabolic Death Metal group's third studio album was given a new look as a remastered version - available on CD and LP. Singer Helmuth says: "As the planet stumbles in chaos, we continue to praise the pandemonic dance of death with the re-recorded version of the title track 'Necrodaemon Terrorsathan'. It is a manifestation of diabolical death metal in its purest form. Twenty years on its first publication it is an offering to the horde, which BELPHEGOR supports and makes it possible for us to continue to be present, more brutal than ever before. We pay homage to you! "
The black / thrash metal band INVINCIBLE FORCE releases "Decomposed Sacramentum", their 2nd album after the successful debut "Satan Rebellion Metal" (2015) by the Chileans. "Decomposed Sacramentum" was produced by Pablo Clares (DEATH YELL) at DM6 Studios. The cover artwork is by David Jorquera.
Galdrum is the kind of record that gets you excited right from the start. The cackle that the vocal line releases on the opening track 'Glass Caverns Of Dragon Kings' perfectly shows the kind of humor the band incorporates into their heavy metal. With the Black Metal side of their sound, Stormkeep reveals a deep love for bands like Immortal. It's energetic and powerful, a fascinating listening experience. These songs reflect a deep respect for the old gods of black metal, but also suggest so much more of what to expect from the band's sound. Their music is multi-layered and the production shines throughout.
REVENGE have announced a new edition of their EP "Attack.Blood.Revenge". For the 20th anniversary and the band's existence, Revenge will re-release their debut EP filled with 4 bonus tracks. In addition to the "Superion.Command.Destroy" EP, there is also a song from the 7 "split with ARKHON INFAUSTUS and the VON cover" Lamb ".
After their EP "Monarchy of Shadows", which was released shortly before Lockdown in 2020, the 5th album of this American black metal band follows with the great support of a prominent guest list including Paul Delaney (BLACK ANVIL), Dwid Hellion (INTEGRITY) , Todd Stern (PSYCROPTIC), Ray Suhy (SIX FEET UNDER), Andy Thomas (BLACK CROWN INITIATE) and Sera Timms (IDES OF GEMINI, BLACK MATH HORSEMAN).
