The album is generally considered a milestone in the second wave black metal. In contrast to the first wave, which in principle consisted of various thrash metal bands from the 1980s, Mayhem managed to establish an idiosyncratic style that was based on the old models but had enough ideas of its own. Fueled by the death of two band members and the scandals surrounding the arson of churches, 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas' (on Deathlike Silence Productions, May 1994) developed black metal from Norway and Sweden into the dominating underground scene in heavy metal in the mid-1990s Years. In addition to the bands from the Mayhem area, new black metal bands, especially from Scandinavia, sprang up. Now the most important black metal album of all time, praised by many fans and critics, is available as a limited deluxe box set including five LPs. The iconic album is mastered for the first time by the original DAT tapes and released by drummer Hellhammer. Four more LPs with Rehearsals (Oslo, February + May 1992), Instrumental Rough Mixing (Bergen, June 1992), and Vocal Sessions (Bergen, April / May 1993) are still included in the box. In addition, an elaborate 96-page booklet with interviews about the history of the band and the much-quoted album.
