The London experimentalist Leifur James has his highly acclaimed debut album "A Louder Silence" (2018) and a remix EP feat. Bruce, FaultyDL and Whities are now following the second album "Angel In Disguise". On this he explores the topics of love and loss with a masterful mixture of harmonic vocals (by Leifur himself), nuanced electronic soundscapes and pulsating percussion. Together with the Hungarian director Balázs Simon, the new tracks will be expanded in parallel to an audiovisual project with animated videos and short films.
Jas Shaw from Simian Mobile Disco and the new talent Bas Grossfeldt present "Klavier" - an album of ghostly elegance, graceful attitude and cerebral depth, at the center of which is the Yamaha Disklavier. The combination of Hauschka's prepared piano minimalism with dub techno in the style of Basic Channel is reflected in the duo, in which Shaw's impressive dance music experience meets Grossfeldt's art-based appreciation of contemporary composition.
The globetrotting beat maestro is back, with a truckload of tropical vibes and the irresistibly danceable soundtrack to your Summer! 3 years after releasing his groundbreaking collaborative album with singer Chico Mann (which landed him live sets on Boiler Room & KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic as well as a feature on NYTimes "Best Songs Of The Week") DJ/producer Captain Planet returns with NO VISA, set to drop June 26th on Bastard Jazz Recordings. In his trademark "Gumbo Funk" sound, the album mixes rhythms and musical styles from the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, over highly danceable electronic beats, all firmly rooted in the hip hop, dancehall and house music that the Captain grew up playing as a DJ. Seamlessly bouncing from Brazilian Baile Funk, to Afrobeat, to Roots Reggae and Latin House, the entire record delivers the uplifting feel of one of the Captain's legendary boundary-crossing DJ sets. Building on these traditions he draws from, the Captain has created something fully original and unique. NO VISA, the 5th full-length album from producer Charlie Wilder (aka Captain Planet), is both a return to form and a launchpad into the future. With 13 songs that feature vocalists from around the world, long-time fans will recognize several previous collaborators as well as the global influences that have always been central to Captain Planet's music. New friends, like prolific Zimbabwean-American singer Shungudzo (who has recent hits with Oliver Heldens & Rudimental), and Jamaican reggae star Jesse Royal, bring powerful subversive messages to the music as well. Showcasing the Captain's production chops and songwriting talents equally, the album unveils a unique musical landscape, a place where our political boundaries and cultural hierarchies begin to dissolve, where foreign languages mingle together and deep rooted traditions dance with the future. With NO VISA, Captain Planet unveils a fully matured and truly unique form of electronic music- one that bridges gaps between worldwide cultural diasporas as well as contemporary dance music sub-genres (house, hip hop, dancehall & global bass). Throughout every Captain Planet song, it's clear to hear his inspired appreciation for breaking the boundaries between genres and bridging continents through rhythm.

British veteran Brian Dougans' new 4-track EP is released exactly one year after he announced his album "Built By Humanoid" after almost 30 years. On "Future: Turned", Humanoid continues to experiment with 303 acid basslines and random rhythms. Produced by Future Sound Of London.
"APKÁ!" is the name of the fifth album by the Brazilian pop icon Céu from Sao Paulo and, like its predecessor "Tropix" (2016), was produced by the French electronics engineer Herve Salters (aka General Elektriks). In contrast to her previous albums, which consisted exclusively of her own compositions, Céu interprets on "APKá!" For the first time, a song each by the Brazil legend Caetano Veloso and the musician Dinho, member of the psych rock band Boogarins. Céu received four Grammy nominations during her career and was # 1 on the Billboard World Charts.

The new album by Berlin sound tinkerer Matti Gajek deals with the progressive Krautrock myth from the point of view of an East German, who grew up during the Cold War, but has plenty of vitamin D. It is Gajek's most personal work to date of high-energy, digital production, vibrating rhythms and haunting Spoken word poetry, a vision of alternative futurism. After releases on Monkeytown and Infinite Greyscale, "Vitamin D" appears on Clark's Throttle Records label.
The second album by the Berlin musician André Uhl invites the listener to a sound adventure with a high emotional impact. Eleven tracks are carefully crafted like sculptures in a swampy landscape. Warm, gritty and viscous, the unique sound aesthetics lead the way through the dusty twilight and at the same time offer comfort and disruption. The sound material was recorded in a church during André's two-month artist residency in a monastery in Alsace, using special microphones to capture the unique reverberation of the nave. Additional material was recorded in Philadelphia, New York and André's Berlin studio. Field recordings play a central role on the album, they define the mood and form the rhythmic basis for all compositions. Other elements were recorded using a variety of different analog and digital instruments. “Relax and Implode” by André Uhl will be published on October 16, 2020 on Martin Hossbach.
Top remix EP for the debut album "Shadows In Blue" by the Bristol producer Hodge aka Jacob Martin, which was released during the first lockdown in April 2020 and skillfully combined dancefloor sensibilities with experimental tendencies. Now - for the second lockdown - the remixers are making their mark: Anz (Hessle Audio) and AYA (4-page CRACK feature), both from Manchester, Facta & K-Lone from Bristol, Shanti Celeste (who recently remixed Caribou), Techno- Veteran Surgeon and the currently hyped footwork producer Kush Jones from NYC. 12 "on light blue vinyl.
Beyond The Yellow Haze is the debut release by Nigerian sound and installation artist Emeka Ogboh on Ostgut Tons sub-label A-TON. In the album, Ogboh superimposes subtle elements from electronic ambient and dance music with field recordings from the city of Lagos - a result of his increasing involvement with electronic music since he moved to Berlin six years ago. A change between musical accentuation and atmospheric vortex, a synthetic kaleidoscope of basses and polyrhythms: In Beyond The Yellow Haze, Ogboh creates an atonal orchestra made of horns, engine noises, sound systems, sales talks on the sidewalks and various sound artifacts from the Danfo bus stations in Lagos. The unpredictable result is on the one hand unlocalable, on the other hand location-bound. It can be described as the rhythmic processing of a distant memory of the Nigerian metropolis - a principle that he also applies in relation to his sound installation Ayilara for the Berghain dance floor as part of the STUDIO BERLIN exhibition. The music from Beyond The Yellow Haze was originally part of his solo exhibition No Condition Is Permanent, which was shown in 2018 at the Imane Farès gallery, which Ogboh brought out himself as a stamped and signed artist's edition. Beyond The Yellow Haze will be released on A-TON as a 2x12 '' LP on black vinyl and digitally.

"Translate" is the first new solo album by the British synthesizer specialist Luke Abbott in 6 years and his intermittent excursion into live improvisation with the experimental jazz trio Szun Waves. Sometimes gloomy and threatening, then again bright and inviting, the 11 tracks form a dramatic-cinematic sound experience like a broadband soundtrack to the new reality, which reconciles with the directness of his acclaimed Synth-Kraut debut "Holkham Drones" (2010) and presented the artist as mature as never before.
Reprint of the much-touted, first Warp album by British electronics producer Bibio from 2009. A masterpiece of Lofi guitars and jazz chords on a beat-based soundscape, with woven influences from Brazil, folk and hip hop. Black double vinyl incl. DL code.
Bonobo announces its own label and is releasing a new 12 ”with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs! For "Heartbreak," Simon Green aka Bonobo and fellow producer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs team up for a dancefloor-driven 12 "thing that builds on some of the basics of electronic music and draws a line from 1980s NYC to warehouse parties today. After both settling in LA around 2015, the two British artists Bonobo and TEED quickly became friends. In the years that followed, they appeared at each other's performances and exchanged demos. The 12 "is the first to launch through Bonobo's new label, OUTLIER - which was founded in partnership with Ninja Tune - and is expanding its series of events with club shows and festival takeovers around the world under the same banner. OUTLIER was launched in the iconic, albeit now unfortunately closed, New York club Output and has had Bonobo play and curate a number of nights and festivals on both sides of the Atlantic, including the Melt! Festival, Nuits Sonores, OFFSonar, and so far an unforgettable night in the Astra Kulturhaus with Matthew Herbert, Dauwd and of course Bonobo himself, as well as others.

On his new 6-track EP, Mark Pritchard presents a condensation of his eclectic style and his hypnotizing formula of producing dance music, inspired by subgenres such as grime, dancehall, electro and techno. "MP Productions - EP 1" contains tracks that Pritchard already used in his WXAXRXP NTS Anniversary Set 2019, including "LFO Special", a dancehall variation of the iconic Warp classic. The forerunner to the new album 2021 is an accumulation of his career so far, from club tunes to albums such as "Under The Sun" (2016, featuring Thom Yorke) and "The Four Worlds" (2018) to the global communication project with Tom Middleton, the was recently fully reissued on their Evolution label.
Remastered version of the album released in 1987. The double vinyl only contains the tracks from "Children Of God". The attached Hi Res download code also contains the recordings of the bonus live album "Feel Good Now", which will be released again in 2021 as a standalone version on vinyl.
"Fading" follows the remastered new edition of the groundbreaking trilogy "1 2 3" by Berlin-based artist and electronic sound tinkerer Stefan Betke aka Pole, which was published in early 2020. He takes over the basic elements, language and vocabulary of the trilogy for "fading" - for example the defining crackling and disruptive noises that are buzzing in the background - and adds modern details to them. "Fading" is a multi-faceted album that is just as suitable for immersive listening through headphones as it is for being pumped out loud through a loudspeaker system to feel the bass rattle on your chest. Black double vinyl in a gatefold cover with a spot gloss finish and a high quality download
The Turkish-born, London-based musician and producer Yigit Bülbül is releasing his debut album "Fever" on Pingipung. The multi-instrumentalist, who has learned his craft with various interesting artists and bands in London over the past 10 years, knows how to create his own contemporary avant-garde pop projections with a rich musical heritage from the 1980s and 90s. His style breaks out into funny, absurd moments of synth blurps, percussive extravagance and nervous horns. It's always colorful and trippy, but in an easy way. That is exactly what we want to publish in a year of need. The album is framed by two contemplative tracks that are reminiscent of Holger Czukay's oeuvre. The saxophone in the title track "The Heath" sways like an introverted lead in meditation. The long and carefully designed ambient outro "Txalaparta" contains a spoken word sample by the Basque musician Txomin Artola from 1978. The four tracks at the heart of the album are beat-driven, percussion-heavy, full of synthesizers and random horn samples. "Alo?" sounds like Snakefinger is trying to make a Skype call with Serge Gainsbourg. "Cacti All Over My Head" could be a ween instrumental with long, curved synth lines over a slowed bossa nova beat.
Tru Thoughts presents 'Covers 3' - the third part of the label's 'Covers' compilation series, put together by A&R, the label's co-founder and renowned DJ Robert Luis. The LP will be released digitally and in a limited edition of 500 hand-numbered, ice-cream-colored vinyl records (plus a download card with all 18 tracks). "Covers 3" contains adaptations of originals by a variety of cult artists, including Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, peripheral soul character William DeVaughn, the preeminent jazz fusion band Weather Report, American music innovator Duke Ellington, the anthemic jungle -Duo Shy FX & Apache, the hip-hop duo Pete Rock & CL Smooth from the Golden Age, the idiosyncratic and elliptical singer-songwriter Frank Ocean and many others. Tru Thoughts Covers 3 "is an extraordinary listening experience that re-contextualises popular classics and gives them a fresh touch.
Second album by the Berlin quartet KAMM (Dave Aju (vocals), Alland Byallo (trumpet), Kenneth Scott (synths), Marc Smith (git)), after the debut "Kick Drunk Love" (2016) for Marcel Vogel's Intimate Friends label . On "Cookie Policies", KAMM are bolder and more complex than on their predecessor and actually manage the feat of merging classic categories such as jazz, indie rock and electronica with an almost perfect, timeless ease, so that memories of Pink Floyd, Can , Miles Davis ("In A Silent Way") and Liquid Liquid.
A MAJOR EXPLORATION OF TOKYO'S CUTTING EDGE 80S SOUND THROUGH THE MUSIC OF CULT JAPANESE LABEL NIPPON COLUMBIA AND ITS BETTER DAYS IMPRINT, SELECTED BY BRITISH RADIO PRESENTER AND DJ NICK LUSCOMBE. ‘Tokyo Dreaming’ is a superb selection picked from the highly collectible Nippon Columbia label and its Better Days sub-label. For the occasion, we’ve teamed up with journalist and Japanese music expert Nick Luscombe who was granted rare access to the much-guarded Nippon Columbia's vaults for a masterful selection encapsulating the fascinating sound of Tokyo in the late 70s and 80s. The selection mixes electro, synth-pop, funk and ambient and features such artists as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Mariah, Shigeo Sekito, Juicy Fruits, Hitomi "Penny" Tohyama and Yumi Murata. The tracklist includes many sought-after rarities and hidden gems which have never been released outside of Japan and the set has been newly remastered by Nippon Columbia. The album has been designed by famed London-based designer Optigram and is annotated by Nick. Nippon Columbia, one of Japan's oldest music labels is also one of its most collectible thanks to its sub-label Better Days which, in the late 70s, became a hotbed for Tokyo's new generation of pop artists eager to experiment with ambient, electro and funk. Armed with a string of new Japanese-made synthesizers and drum machines that would soon take the world by storm, they made cutting-edge music, which has since become highly sought-after by a new generation of Japanese music lovers. Nick Luscombe, who has long been a leading advocate of Japanese music from this era, has handpicked a selection of some of the sharpest music released on these labels at the time. According to Nick, “Tokyo Dreaming is a look back to an incredible era of Japanese music, that still sounds and feels like the future. It was a moment when brand-new music tech from Japan helped forge new ideas and experiments that permeated pop, soul and jazz and helped create new forms of music including electro and techno. The perfect meeting point that would help create a new soundtrack for modern living.“ ?The selection starts with "The End of Asia" by Ryuichi Sakamoto from his 1978 ground-breaking debut "Thousand Knives Of" (reissued last year by Wewantsounds). The track became a staple of Sakamoto's and YMO's live shows and was even re-recorded by the group for their 1980 album 'X Multiplies'. The track is followed by Mariah's cult Armenian folk flavoured synth pop classic "Shinzo No Tobira" (1983), which first spread outside of Japan when the Scottish DJ duo Optimo started playing the track regularly at their shows. ?Chika Asamoto's "Self Control" (1988) and Jun Fukamachi's "Treasure Hunter" (1985) are perfect songs in the synth-pop canon, while Yumi Murata's rendition of Akiko Yano's "Watashi No Bus" and Hitomi "Penny" Tohyama's "Rainy Driver" both from 1981, move closer towards the slicker, funkier sound of City Pop. ?'Tokyo Dreaming' superbly showcases the breadth of 80s Japanese music and the way electro pop was a playing ground for musicians to experiment with many styles, as showcased by Akira Sakata's dub-enfused "Room" from 1980, Kazumi Watanabe's discoid "Tokyo Joe" (1980) and Juicy Fruits' "kawai" robotic Techno pop song "Jenie Gets Angry". ?The selection flows effortlessly between many shades of synth and ends with two cult classics in the form of Yasuaki Shimizu's "Semi Tori No Hi" and Shigeo Sekito's ambient-jazz masterpiece "The Word II" from his highly sought-after album "Kareinaru Electone (The Word) Vol.2" which, although recorded in 1975, perfectly announces the synth revolution to come. Tokyo Dreaming showcases the groundbreaking sounds of a city turned giant sonic lab which was restlessly inventing the music of the future. Nick Luscombe is a highly respected and in-demand music influencer who discovers great music from all over the world and shares it internationally through his many radio shows and DJ sets. He has been in charge of music selection for various radio programs since 1999, and from 2010 - 2019, was the DJ for the popular BBC Radio music program "Late Junction”. He has also curated and presented music shows for Monocle and British Airways radio stations. He has worked as both Chief Music Editor at iTunes and Director of Music at London’s Institute of Contemporary Art, and is the founder of MSCTY.
Berlin-based Canadian producers Scott Monteith alias Deadbeat and Colin de la Plante alias The Mole will release their debut album together in early December. While the two have already performed and toured extensively together over the years, especially due to their joint connection to the Mutek Festival and the labels Cynosure and Wagon Repair, this was the first time they worked as a duo in the studio. The ten tracks on the album, which were composed during the lockdown in Berlin, contain the entire range of their common musical preferences and range between house, dub, hip-hop and downbeats.
- "Classic braindance" - Hardwax - "Bogdan was a massive inspiration for some of my tracks on the Drukqs album, the fact he was doing it all on a shit PC tracker… totally amazing. This was before 99.9 percent of people used the computer for everything. His records are so underrated." - Aphex Twin
Wewantsounds is proud to announce the reissue of Ryuichi Sakamoto's third solo album "Hidari Ude No Yume" (Left Handed Dream), originally released in 1981 on the Alfa label. Save for a small-scale Dutch vinyl release in 1981, it is the first time the album's original Japanese edition is released outside of Japan (the European release on Epic Records included significantly different tracks and mixes). Newly remastered from the original tapes by renowned engineer Bernie Grundman, this LP edition comes with original artwork featuring a striking cover shot by famous photographer Masayoshi Sukita (sourced from the original negative), OBI strip and 4-page insert with new introduction by journalist Anton Spice. The album will also be released as a 2-LP limited edition gatefold including the album's full instrumental mix. Ryuichi Sakamoto's third album, "Hidari Ude No Yume" was recorded at the legendary Alfa Studio 'A' in Tokyo during the Summer of 1981. it came after "B-2 Unit" in 1980 and his debut album "Thousand Knives Of" in 1978, the very year Sakamoto was invited by Haruomi Hosono to join Yellow Magic Orchestra alongside Yukihiro Takahashi. In the process, they became global stars as the group rewrote the rules of electronic pop and toured around the world, yet Sakamoto was keen to remain active as a solo artist. ?In 1981, the musician decided to record an album rooted in Pop, following "B-2 Unit" which had a more of an experimental edge and his landmark electro debut from 1978. For this new album entitled "Hidari Ude No Yume," Sakamoto invited British producer Robin Scott, who had had huge hit with 'Pop Muzik,' to co-produce. They entered the Alfa studio in July 1981, accompanied by a handful of musicians. These included his fellow YMO musicians Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi, keyboard programmer extraordinaire Hideki Matsutake who'd been on Sakamoto's first two albums and became YMO's unofficial fourth member, violinist Kaoru Sato, saxophonist Satoshi Nakamura and American guitarist Adrian Belew who'd played with David Bowie, The Talking Heads' "Remain In Light" and more recently, Tom Tom Club’s debut (co-writing 'Genius Of Love'). ?Together, they created a fascinating mix of pop, ambient and electronic music with elements of avant garde and traditional Japanese music, the whole firmly rooted in a solid groove. Sakamoto wanted to give the album a spontaneous feel and decided to let ideas flow and evolve organically during the sessions as musicians would develop them together. From the funk of 'Relâché' to the new wave feel of 'Venezia' and the ambient minimalism of 'Slat Dance,' the album is remarkably consistent while displaying a wealth of global influences as shown by the diversity of instruments featured on the credits: Marimba, didgeridu, traditional Japanese instruments such as the Sho and Hichiriki flutes. The album was released in Japan in 1981 and Epic Records picked it up for Europe a year later but decided to release it in a significantly altered version. The sequencing was completely reshuffled and two tracks, 'Saru No Ie' and 'Living In The Dark' were completely dropped while three others, ‘Relâché’, ‘Tell 'em To Me’, ‘Venezia’ were heavily remodelled with english lyrics and became 'Just About Enough', 'Once In A Lifetime' and 'The Left Bank'. Last but not least, a new English-sung track, 'The Arrangement,' was added, making the album nine tracks instead of ten for the Japanese edition. Altogether this International version called "Left-Handed Dream" was a very different album from the Japanese one and although both were successful at the time and further established Ryuichi Sakamoto as a global solo artist, the Japanese edition of "Hidari Ude No Yume" remains largely unknown to international ears. Wewantsounds is now delighted to release this original Japanese edition for the first time in decades as a single LP together with a 2-LP limited-edition set adding, as a bonus, its fascinating instrumental mix, discovered in the label's vaults a few years ago (Note that 'The Garden Of Poppies', 'Slat Dance' and 'Saru No Ie' are instrumentals but for the consistency of the album we kept them on the Instrumental Mix). "Hidari Ude No Yume" is an essential album in Ryuichi Sakamoto's rich discography. It is now available in its purest original Japanese form.

Lokal, national, international. Willkommen im Drahthaus.
