Luciano with a new album that shows his love for "music to listen to at home, made for a spiritual journey and an inner universe" as he describes it. On his very first Mule Musiq album "luci neu house", Luciano delivers meditative travel music full of repetitive patterns that plays tricks on the listener's subconscious.
Populous, aka Andrea Mangia, DJ and producer hailing from Lecce, in Southern Italy, is excited to announce his new album "W" with tastemaker imprint Wonderwheel Recordings. The new album "W," for women, is Populous' tribute to free and diverse feminine musical imagery. Inspired by women who sing, write, compose and play and for Populous are both icons and friends, hai from Italy, Japan, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. "W" is also a celebration of femininity beyond stereotypes, less defined by gender rather a common uniqueness that is the perfect response to the uniformity imposed by the machismo still reigning in the music industry. With the new album, Populous has opened up about his queer identity, making his first queer-identifying musical statement. From songs to artwork, he has created a visual manifesto to present feminine musical imagery. The artwork was conceived together with Nicola Napoli (a digital artist in Berlin's queer scene) it is, in Populous' own words, the representation of "a utopian party we would have done anything to be invited to." An eclectic crossover party, improbable yet coherent, where you'd meet Grace Jones and Missy Elliott, Loredana Bertè and RuPaul, Aaliyha and Amanda Lear, Beth Ditto and Divine while dancing to shamanic house, digital cumbia, vogue beat and glitch electronica. Populous is accompanied on each track by the independent artists he admires most: Sobrenadar, Kaleema, Sotomayor, Emmanuelle, Barda, Weste, Cuushe and the Italian M¥SS KETA, L I M, Matilde Davoli and Lucia Manca. Collaborations born of discovering one's sexual freedom, from perpetual motion, from constant traveling, physical and musical. With a background in musicology, Populous is known for his global approach to music-making. He has always been interested in disparate genres and styles of music, which is reflected in the output from the Populous project and its focus on Latin American sounds as refracted through a European lens. In 2003, Mangia made his first jaunt into the music world with the album 'Quipo' (via Morr Music), followed by 'Queue For Love' in 2005. Influenced by his reggae/hip-hop-infused surroundings (Lecce is known as Italy's Jamaica, as reggae and dancehall are extremely popular there) he released 'Drawn in Basic' in 2008, which was well received by international critics, earning him a spot on the global dance music map. The 2010s have seen Mangia refine the Populous sound with albums like 'Night Safari' (Bad Panda Records) and 'Azulejos' (Wonderwheel Recordings), while also expanding his role as a sound designer for fashion houses such as Gucci, Vivienne Westwood, Isabel Marant, and Elie Saab, among others.
Fonkynson, the alter ego of Valentin Huchon, with his second album "Falling" claims to be one of the most worthy representatives of future house sounds from Montreal. After the success of his first publication "Follow Me", he reinvents himself and is as dance-friendly as ever. His production techniques have evolved; the musician now incorporates analog instruments, vocals and turntablism into his compositions. He has worked with talented local climbers such as Torontonian Desiire, the singers Kösa and Vaness, and Montrealer Laurence Giroux-Do (lead singer of Le Couleur). The nine tracks indicate a mixture of different styles of music that have been put together to form a pop house work.
Bare feet in the warm sand, a salty breeze in the rustle of the palm leaves, the intoxicating weight of ice-cold glass in your hand ... jPattersson fetches nine dazzling pearls from the dubiggen depths of his repertoire and threads them onto exactly this chain of associations. Mood expresses a continuing musical travel bug and an increasing maturity. Because although the distinctive soul of the title still hovers between the frequencies of his trumpet and his voice, the third jPattersson album sounds new and different. More than half of the titles follow a classic song structure. In between, everything from tropical tipsy to hypnotic depth can be found. Hence a wonderful listening experience and substantial dance floor lining.
On John Talabot's debut album "Fin" from 2012 ", the Spanish producer builds on his distinctive sound - colorful, nostalgic, but never retro, easy-going but slightly confused - without repeating himself ... Talabot is a role model for has become a new generation of producers working at the intersection of deep house, disco and indie pop, and he has his own niche somewhere between the slow-motion theatrics of artists like ... the global jewel tones of Four Tet and Caribou and created by Animal Collective and Delorean's psych-pop frenzy ... his slow pace, oversaturated colors, and tropical accents match the foggy, damp dance music that is currently fashionable, and he's found himself in an esteemed company - he remixes The XX ... ". Pitchfork Media - candidate for the album of the year 2012.
Moscoman aka Chen Moscovici, Berlin based by choice and DJ of Panorama Bar (Berghain), Space Miami and Pacha Ibiza, delivers after releases on Because, Life & Death, Greco-Roman, ESP Institute (debut album "A Shot In The Light" 2016) and his own label Disco Halal is now releasing his second album on Moshi Moshi. On "Time Slips Away" he extends his sound from machine disco, melodic techno and wonky house with new sound structures that make the 12 tracks including vocal features by Tom Sanders (Teleman), Vanity Fairy, Wooze, Niki Kini and Nuphar more direct and compelling , which is also due to his early indie rock background.
Remastered and expanded reissue of the debut album "Happiness" (1990) by electro-pop duo The Beloved including their breakthrough single "The Sun Rising", plus "Your Love Takes Me Higher", "Time After Time" and "Hello". Inspired by the acid house scene in the 'Summer of Love' in 1988, founding members Jon Marsh and Steve Waddington changed from an indie band to a hybrid of pop and balearic house. While the 2LP first appeared on 180g heavyweight vinyl, the CD contains numerous bonus tracks, including demos, unpublished tracks (2,3,4,13), B-sides, alternative versions, as well as the previously unpublished "The Sun Rising (Evening Session Remix) "from a BBC Radio 1 session.
Two decades. Twenty years. Over 400 tracks. Over two days of total playing time and countless colorful dots. If someone had told us in 1999, when we were putting together the first TOTAL, that it was going to kick off one of the longest-running compilation series in the wide world of electronic music - we would probably have laughed out loud. But here we are, 2020, a year that will likely go down in history as one of the toughest years for club culture. But: we continue. Music is our oxygen. And hopefully we'll dance together again soon. TOTAL wouldn't be TOTAL if the entire permanent staff weren't represented with new, exclusive pieces. The founding fathers VOIGT & VOIGT, JÜRGEN PAAPE, JÖRG BURGER and MICHAEL MAYER are just as important as our Berlin outpost SASCHA FUNKE. As usual, the exclusive pieces can also be found on the TOTAL 20 double vinyl edition.
After numerous mix samplers, the British disco titans Horse Meat Disco present their first studio album. The DJ quartet has developed into a global disco institution since it was founded on New Year's Eve 2004 in a London gay bar, with regular DJ residences in Berlin, NYC, Lisbon, London and the "Glitterbox" parties worldwide. Their 14 tracks - free of cover versions and samples - prove that disco not only has a glorious past, but also a future. This is also proven by the A-List features on "Love And Dancing", which range from Kathy Sledge (Sister Sledge !!) to acid jazz icon N'Dea Davenport to The Phenomenal Handclap Band from Brooklyn. Pink-colored 180g double vinyl with poster & download code in the gatefold.
Great debut album by The Vision, the house project by Ben Westbeech and KON. Excellent vocal house with elements from garage, soul, funk and disco and prominent feature guests such as Roy Ayers, Honey Dijon, Andreya Triana, Dames Brown and Nikki-O. Support comes from tastemakers like Gilles Peterson, Gerd Janson, Annie Mac, Joe Claussell and Mary-Anne Hobbs, to name a few. 2xLP on 180g vinyl in gatefold, including download code.
The three energetic synth-disco tracks of Clavis' Rocket Dial EP emerged from more or less spontaneous studio live jams with vintage hardware boxes like the Roland TR-808 and SH-09, spruced up with modern drums and guitar overdubs. Miami Vice is calling ... Clavis is the impressive production duo consisting of Manuel Tur and Adrian Hoffmann (aka Urban Absolutes). After graduating, it took another decade for the two long-time school friends to release their first EP together on Freerange Records in 2015. Since then they have been steadily expanding their discography based on the “one EP per year” principle, peppered with remixes for artists like Ane Brun and Andhim. In addition to Clavis, they are also involved in the production of various other projects, such as Amberoom, which just caused a stir with remixes by Dixon and Isolée. Clavis live and work in Essen.
Kompakt is happy about the return of the Copenhagen band WhoMadeWho. Tomas Barfod's penchant for electronic music in poetic contrast to Tomas Høffding and Jeppe Kjellberg's respective backgrounds in rock and jazz makes their music an electrifying conglomerate in which various influences merge into a unique sonic fingerprint: soulful, irresistible and immensely satisfying. On Synchronicity, Michael Mayer, Echonomist, Adana Twins, Axel Boman, Robag Wruhme, Frank Wiedemann (Âme / Howling), Terr, Sainte Vie, Mano Le Tough, Marc Piñol, Rebolledo and Perel are on the list of collaborators who make this album one Make a diverse WhoMadeWho experience where the trio directed and took care of the fine-tuning. The result: a real gem of dance, pop and glory.
Debut album by the Swedish-South African formation Off The Meds from Stockholm. Experimental electronica meets spoken word & rap. Off The Meds debuted in 2018 with an ethno-jazz-meets-hip-house track on the "Studio Barnhus Volym 1" sampler, their follow-up track "Belter" was remixed by Joy Orbinson, the pre-singles from the album are being played on Four Tet and Conducta.
The fourth and final season in the course of the 25th anniversary of the legendary and style-defining Parisian label F Communications with remastered reissues of iconic EP's completes the 25th. St. Germain's (Ludovic Navarre) deep house masterpiece "Blanc EP" (1994 , published in collaboration with Didier Delesalle as Nuages), the techno monolith "Silvery Sounds" (1998) by the Frankfurt producer Andreas Köhler (aka Sound Of K) with the fantastic Technasia remixes, the legendary first "Flame One" EP (1996 ) of the Baleric House project A Reminiscent Drive, Jori Hulkkonen's techy late work "A Letter From Cardassia" (2004), and of course Laurent Garnier again with his jackin '"Colored City" EP (1998).
Die Gruppe Automat - Jochen Arbeit (u.a.
‘GNAWA ELECTRIC LAUNE’ is the magical collaboration between Moroccan Gnawa-master (maâlem) Rabii Harnoune and Frankfurt electronic producer V.B.Kühl. Recorded at Achim Sauer’s 7V-Studio, collectively Rabii Harnoune & V.B. Kühl have produced an LP which represents entirely new territory, building a bridge from old to new, from Africa to Europe, and from to person to person. This melange of traditional North African Gnawa music and modern club sounds results in a fascinating debut, cross-cultural friction which is electric and otherworldly. “Traveller” (out 19th March) is the first offering from the album, a tale that belongs to the repertoire of “L’Bouhala”, a story which roughly translates as symbolism for multiculturism in Gnawa culture. “Traveller” is a Gnawa-club fusion track that feels equally at home on the dancefloor as it does in its core spiritual home. “The traveller is a character in the culture of Gnawa” Rabii explains, “who is travelling from tribe to tribe, from village to city, looking for experiences and knowledge, then sharing it by singing about it”. Gnawa music is among Morocco’s richest and oldest continuous traditions, dating back to pre-Islam. Rabii Harnoune joined the Kotab, a place where one can learn the teaching of the Quran, at the age of four. Growing up on a household diet of classical Arabic, Moroccan and Sufi music, Rabii was first introduced to Gnawa through his neighbour’s uncle who was a master in the genre. “Gnawa music was exclusively played by families whose parents came from Sub-Saharan or Central African tribes to Morocco in colonial times” Rabii explains, “it was rare to be able to listen to Gnawa music on radio, so I started to collect rare live recordings”. Rabii’s mastery at the Guembri, a three-string lute and Gnawa singing (a central aspect to the culture), would lead him to play world-class festivals in Essaouira, Fes, Marrakesh, and Casablanca – all spiritual centres for the genre. V.B.Kühl realised his own musical vision and ambition when he inherited his first ghettoblaster (boombox) and bought a four-track recorder: “rhythm is deep in me, and although music is not my profession, the passion never stopped”. V.B.Kühl caught the attention of DJ Shadow with two stellar remixes, which would later lead to commissioned remixes by Tru Thoughts for acts such as Anchorsong and Lakuta. V.B.Kühl and album co-producer Achim Sauer founded t&TT together, a DIY label that was used as a vehicle to release both artist solo projects. V.B.Kuhl and Achim first met Rabii while performing live at a house party of mutual friends. Rabii’s wish to release Gnawa music into the world lead to the trio collaborating and releasing ‘GNAWA ELECTRIC LAUNE’, twelve songs enriched with deep vibes and unstoppable grooves, an astonishing global mix of tradition and innovation. Supported by the likes of Pedo Knopp (Analog Africa), Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music), Dom Servini (Soho Radio) and Moroccan stations such as Medi1 Radio, ChadaFM and Radio Aswat, Rabii Harnoune & V.B.Kühl continue the legacy of Jimi Hendrix, Robert Plant, Randy Weston and more recently Bonobo, Floating Points and James Holden – in bridging together two different worlds, of Gnawa and Western musicians.
Am 21.Juni 2019 veröffentlichen Hot Chip ihr siebtes Studioalbum „A Bath Full Of Ecstasy“.
