With Messiah from Switzerland there were some real maniacs at the start, Thrash / Death Metal maniacs of course. Founded in 1984, they played a key role in shaping the early sound of Death and Thrash Metal. "Extreme Cold Weather" was Messiah's second album, released in 1987. It has become a cult album by a band that has always been both obscure and outstanding compared to their contemporaries. Messiah played a unique, very extreme mix of early Thrash and Death: brutal, uncouth, raw and always independent. The songs on "Extreme Cold Weather" are just as perky as they are well thought out. As on "Hymn to Abramelin", Messiah combine razor-sharp Thrash attacks, atmospheric melody parts and the Messiah-typical interludes and samples. On their second album, Messiah combined new and older material, the latter coming from live situations. With "Extreme Cold Weather" Messiah released a wicked and much sought-after cult album.
