At the end of May, "Nocturne", an Irmin Schmidt live album, was released, which was recorded at the renowned British Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival at the end of last year. Nocturne (Live At The Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival) consists of three pieces that are performed on a partially prepared piano, as well as additional recorded soundscapes. The live performance of "Piano Piece II" is a thoughtful improvisation that uses essential elements of the original piece. "Nocturne" begins with the ambient sounds, while the piano merges with the soundscape and finally expands into a long meditative piano solo. "Yonder", on the other hand, is a much more dramatic piece that is dominated by the overwhelming sounds of church bells, builds up emotionally and appears extremely poetic. Nocturne will be released on Spoon Records on May 29, 2020, the composer's 83rd birthday, as white double vinyl, CD and digital.
