“Agora”, the touchingly intimate-looking new album by the Brazilian singer / songwriter Bebel Gilberto proves the exceptional musical talent of this global superstar. 20 years after the groundbreaking success of her debut album “Tanto Tempo”, which Bossa Nova has skilfully given a modern twist, Gilberto mixes a wide variety of styles again and conjures up an inspiring, sensual musical cocktail for her listeners. The first Bebel Gilberto studio album was created in six years under the most difficult personal conditions: First, the singer lost her best friend in 2019, and six months later both parents (Bossa Nova inventor João Gilberto and singer Miúcha). The fact that Bebel Gilberto found the strength to bring this stunning album to an end despite the tragedies (by the way, “Agora” is Portuguese and means “now”) is also thanks to her New York producer and long-time friend Thomas Barlett. In addition to working for Gilberto, he made a name for himself with productions for Sufjan Stevens, St. Vincent, Yoko Ono and Norah Jones, among others.
