"Welcome To Conceptual Beach", the third album by the Californian art rock band Young Jesus for Saddle Creek, conveys a balance between the individual and the collective, between rationality and emotion, between tame and wild. In the seven epics, some of which are up to 12 minutes long, the complex musicality of post- and math-rock becomes radical and crystal-clear practice, lively and bright. Young Jesus skillfully balance wandering riffs from earlier works with irresistible hooks, embed them in their characteristic improvisation and create such a shimmering, liquid sound carpet.
