Québec-based funeral doom band ATRAMENTUS 'debut album entitled Stygian is slated to be released over 20 Buck Spin this August. The band has existed since winter 2012 and 20 Buck Spin has been interested for a long time, but now the songwriting has only just blossomed into full bloom and the album contains 3 songs with a playing time of more than 40 minutes, with each Black-Dark Epic- Funeral Doom Metal fan's ears will glow. The album was recorded, reworked and mixed by Xavier Berthiaume in Studio Tehom in Montreal, mastered by Greg Chandler [ESOTERIC, LYCHGATE] in Priory Recording Studios in Birmingham and artistically designed with cover artwork by Mariusz Lewandowski [ATLANTEAN KODEX, BELL WITCH, MIZMOR] . For fans of Mournful Congregation, Evoken, Nortt and Disembowelment
PALLBEARER go back to their roots on the eight monumental tracks from »Forgotten Days«, their fourth album, and this time mix a Doom-influenced metallic spark into their sound that is immediately carried away. So the album is everything a PALLBEARER fan would want: a raw, emotional evolution that contains that dejected arrogance for which the band has always been known. Tracks like 'Riverbed', 'Stasis' and 'Vengeance & Ruination' contain Campbell's best vocal parts to date and even after the last note has faded away, they don't leave their bones. On songs like 'Silver Wings', 'The Quicksand of Existing' or 'Forgotten Days' and the captivating finisher 'Caledonia', PALLBEARER show audible restraint and show that their riffs tend to bring character and disturbing emotional worlds with them, instead of being highly complex and to lose intricate structures.
Black Hole was a talented Doom Metal trio from Italy, with a monstrous, soul-destroying atmosphere. The atmosphere is a complete throwback to anything that was cool in the late 70's / early 80's. Dungeons and dragons, horror films, castles, kitschy stage costumes, smoke machines, skulls ... On the one hand, this atmosphere is reinforced by synths that represent a complete goblin worship. Black Hole with their bleak sounding Doom Metal combine the unholy synths that can only be described as gripping, creepy, weird and just plain cool. Cool is the only thing that really describes their sound. The cover is drawn roughly childlike and almost folklorically.
KATLA translate the notorious Icelandic low from meteorology into dark, Doom-oriented metal and a depressive tonal world of emotions. "Allt þetta helvítis myrkur", the second album by the Icelandic duo, seems almost driven by dark emotions and inner turmoil, which flow into a musical stream of thoughts of intertwined songs that creates a head cinema. Singing and multi-instrumentalist Einar Thorberg Gu? Mundsson (FORTÍÐ, POTENTIAM) as well as the former SÓLSTAFIR drummer and photo artist Gu? Mundur Óli Pálmason are responsible for every aspect of this album, including the artwork and production. With "Allt þetta helvítis myrkur", KATLA give their listeners an emotional rollercoaster ride - dark, heavy and gripping mental cinema.
