With his debut singles, championed by global tastemakers like Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff and Jazzanova, Quantic quickly built on the initial success of "The 5th Exotic". His label mates Bonobo and Jon Kennedy, who later recorded with Ninja Tune and Grand Central respectively, were inspired by the sleepy chill of the 1990s and his enviable collection of Funk 45s. Apricot Morning, Quantic's ambitious full-length sophomore, builds on the accomplishments of its esteemed predecessor. Many strings find themselves in friction with the Hoots & Parps of the afrobatic brass, the tilting drums have the task of bringing these elements together into a coherent whole. Some inspired instrumentals have been further elaborated by the wonderful vocal contributions from EQ, Bristolian hip-hoppers Aspects and the majestic Alice Russell.
