"Videosphere", the debut album by Kompakt's most recent signing, London-based artist Lake Turner (aka Andrew Halford), opens with "The Sunbird" - a challenging stream of ambient sounds that seem to float, only to turn into a subtle one to transform machine rhythm. In just 109 seconds, the piece succeeds in pacing vast terrain - something mythical, modest and grandiose at the same time, gives us an idea of what is hidden behind the sky. Turner was introduced to the compact label family by his temporary employee Yannis Philippakis (Foals). He had previously played in the post punk and indie bands Great Eskimo Hoax and Trophy Wife. Except for a limited lathe-cut 12 ", the" Prime Mover EP "on Algebra from 2018, Turner articulates his own vision of electronic music for the first time with" Videosphere ". The lush ambient-disco-techno-dreams of" Videosphere " Turner produced in his London studio and on his parents' sheep farm in Worcestershire, which may explain the nebulous, leisurely, and almost pastoral nature of the album.
