First vinyl reissue of the legendary, self-titled debut album (1969) by Cry Babies, an early formation of the Brazil funk titans Banda Black Rio. Inspired by James Brown, The Isley Brothers and Kool & The Gang (whose songs they also covered), they combined fat, funky drum breaks with powerful bass, traces of Brazil surf and the soul arrangements typical of Rio de Janeiro. Produced by Durval Ferreira, the Cry Babies paved the way for Jorge Ben, Dom Salvador, Trio Mocotó and Azymuth.
